Abstract # 2184 Rectal Cancer Improved Outcome with Preoperative Chemoradiation + Intraoperative Presacral Electron Boost: 15 Years Results of Practice-Based Adjuvant (Neo) Institutional Program

About the Presenter:
Bachelor of Medicine and General Surgery at the University Autónoma of Madrid. He trained as a Specialist (MIR)in Radiation Oncology at the University Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Madrid. In 1986 he obtained his Ph.D. with a rating of "Cum laude" and special award of the doctorate (University of Navarra). In the period 1982-83 he completed his oncology training at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Royal Marsden Hospital (Institute of Cancer Research) in London and the Department of Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Hahnemann University Hospital (Philadelphia -USA). In 1984, initiated the Oncology Project the University Clinic in Pamplona, as the first Director of the Radiation Oncology Department. In 1993, assumed responsibility as Head of Oncology Department of the Regional Cancer Center, Prince of Asturias (HGU Gregorio Maranon de Madrid) who is your current professional position. In 1988 he was elected vice president of the Spanish Association of Radiotherapy and Oncology, and promoted independence from the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology and its integration into the Spanish Federation of Cancer Societies. In 1990 he was elected (and reelected in 1994) as President of the National Commission for the specialty of Radiation Oncology (consultative body of the Ministries of Education and Health). In 1991 he worked as a Full Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at Hahnemann University (Philadelphia), where he developed the intraoperative radiation therapy program and was director of the Residency Training Program. In 1995 he obtained the teneored position as Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University Complutense of Madrid (linked to University General Hospital Gregorio Marañón). Since 2007 he is Chair Professor with hospital link. In 2006 he was appointed Vice-dean of the University General Hospital Gregorio Marañón. He is currently collaborating on research programs in oncology, combined modality therapy, international cooperative groups, particularly in developing projects and enhancing precision radiotherapy, and intraoperative radiation therapy and chemoradiation. In 1998 was elected founding president of GICOR (Group of Clinical Research in Radiation Oncology) a cooperative group of Spanish radiation oncologists to develop investigational projects to study the interaction of drugs with radiotherapy. He has published 6 books as author, 15 as co-editor, has participated in 59 book chapters, 168 articles in international scientific journals and abstracts in national and 323 international and national congresses. The bibliometric impact factor of scientific publications exceeded 200 points in 2007. Dr. Calvo belongs to the editorial board of several scientific journals: International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology and Physics, Radiotherapy and Oncology, American Journal of Clinical Oncology, British Journal of Radiology, Clinical and Translational Oncology and Palliative Medicine. He is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer "(EORTG) and" Spanish Association of Radiotherapy and Oncology (AERO). He is President elect of the International Society of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (ISIORT).
